Background
This economic region is commonly referred to as the "North State" or "Northern California Interior." It encompasses the Sacramento Valley, parts of the San Joaquin Valley, and extends eastward to the Sierra Nevada mountains including Lake Tahoe, and northward to the Oregon border. This region specifically excludes the coastal counties of Northern California (like Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma, and Marin).
The region includes counties such as:
- Sacramento
- Placer
- El Dorado
- Yolo
- Solano (including Benicia)
- Sutter
- Yuba
- Butte
- Tehama
- Shasta
- Siskiyou
This area is characterized by diverse economies including agriculture, government (especially in Sacramento), tourism (particularly around Lake Tahoe), and increasingly, technology and manufacturing.
